Ultra High Speed Network
A proposal for a Maglev network has been put forward by a initiative group lead by Allen James. Political support is rising in Scotland and in England. Please look into UK Ultraspeed.
Comment: It is quite amazing that Maglev trains haven’t been introduced in England already. Given the shape of the countryside, with many hills and small roads, an elevated track would cut down traveling time easily by a factor of 2 or 3. On many plausible trajectories there isn’t even no need for ultraspeed either to achieve enormous improvements. A low cost, low energy demand Maglev system with the topspeed of 250 km/hour will be sufficient.
Sticking to a car and steel train based infrastructure is a costly affair, drawing a heavy burden on the government budget and reducing the net income of all inhabitants. Many parts of the UK seem to be underdeveloped because of the lack of appropriate modernized infrastructure. Introducing Maglev in such a situation is an improvement of the same order of magnitude as the introduction of the Internet. (WvdP)
